Lessons

All lessons are customised to suit your particular personal goals...

whether that is getting past the intermediate learning plateau, advanced ski-touring in the backcountry, or simply getting the kids out from under your feet for the morning. All lessons and guiding groups are 100% private, allowing you to get exactly what you need from each particular session. Please feel free to let me know at the time of booking exactly what you want out of your lessons. I get just as excited about skiing as you do, so helping you plan your ski adventures months in advance is no chore at all!

About Me

Though I was born in Paris I soon fled to England where I grew up...

I eventually returned to France, and The Portes du Soleil, for the winter of 2000/01 and after a brief diversion to Edinburgh University I moved straight back four years later, and have been here ever since. As well as being a life-long skiing fanatic, I am also an avid paraglider, cyclist, and general-purpose traveller. I’m also a keen long-distance walker, having walked 6000km from Trafalgar Square to Asia a few years ago. I hold the full BASI International Ski Teaching Diploma.

Ski Touring:

There is simply no better way to explore the winter alpine landscape than on touring skis. I offer everything from introductory sessions for complete beginners to more advanced adventures for more experienced and capable skiers.

Beginner Ski Touring:

Ski touring requires a whole array of new skills and equipment. In a few short hours we can find out how everything works, explore some new skiing areas inaccessible by chairlift, and discuss the pros and cons of ski touring set-ups if you think it might be a sport that you would like to pursue. We can also refine your off-piste technique and have a look at some of the basic aspects of avalanche awareness (although this is the tip of a considerably large iceberg!)

Intermediate Ski Touring:

If you've already dipped a toe into ski touring, then you'll need some local knowledge to help you get the most out of your holiday. Having spent twenty years in the Portes du Soleil I can show you the best of the area has to offer for any given set of weather conditions. When conditions allow we can even ski lift accessed powder till lunch, and save the walking for when the easy snow is tracked out.

Advanced Ski Touring:

As both a BASI ISTD Ski Instructor and a UIMLA IML Mountain Leader I am in the very rare position of being able to lead multi-day ski touring trips, incorporating overnight stays in mountain huts! If you think you've seen all the Portes du Soleil, think again. Drag yourself away from the comforts of your chalet for a night and we'll head off to the real back-country. Not for the faint-hearted!

Expert/Custom/Heli skiing:

Ski touring and off-piste skiing are pursuits that mean many different things to many different people. Whether you're training for a ski-mountaineering race, preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the greater ranges, or just hoping for a couple of hours away from the kids and lift-queues, let me know and we'll work on a plan. Ski touring is my passion, and I love to share it with other people!
